When I get my oil changed it is just shy of 8 quarts on my 1984 190 D.
Rule of thumb is to replace up to 5 quarts of oil on every oil change. If you change the oil on your own, you can either get 5 individual quarts of oil, or get a jug of oil, which contains 5 quarts.
