3500 lbs
The tow capacity is 2000 pounds for the I6 motor.
The Jeep Wrangler with the 4-cylinder automatic has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 pounds. The Jeep Wrangler with the 2.5 liter engine and 5-speed manual transmission has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.
Yes. transmission in Park, transfer case in neutral.
You should not tow more than 2,000 pounds in a 1988 Jeep Wrangler. This is considering the engine is a 4.2 liter engine.
The best way is on a trailer.
Place the transmission in Park and the transfer case in neutral.
Do not exceed 80% of max. tow capacity. My 2008 Wrangler Unlimited 4 dr, 4 WD is rated at 3500 lbs. max. tow capacity.
About a couple coolers full of beer. I wouldn't tow much more than a thousound lbs or so. The 2.5l tranny is just not built for the strain.
You will need to remove the drive shaft to tow a Jeep with a tow dolly.
I am no expert but I tow my 1998 wrangler to camp almost every weekend. A 200 mile round trip. It is a 5 speed manual transmission, 4 wheel drive. I put both shifters in neutral and set key switch to unlock steering wheel. Tow bar is mounted with hinge on front bumper of jeep.Hook up to truck, plug in magnetic tow lights mounted on back bumper of jeep and away I go. No problems so far.
I would like to use a towbar, do I need to remove both frount anrear drivelines before towing ?
If 4wd, yes. You place the trans in park, transfer case in neutral, and turn the ignition to unlock the steering.
