Add a half quart at a time.
you put the fluid in the dip stick hole, at least that is how it is on my ford aero star
You stick the key in the door and turn.
The only place to add fluid is through the transmission fluid dip stick spout. Use a funnel and ensure you do not overfill it. Once filled, drive it a bit -- ensuring you run through all of the gears, then check it again and top off as necessary.
Pull the transmission dip stick out , and make sure oil is showing on it . You need to take it for a drive and get the tranny fluid warmed up and then with the engine running and tranny in park , check the fluid on the dip stick . If the fluid is showing on the right mark on the dip stick you are good .
You will have to take it to a dealer or transmission shop that has the special tool to check the fluid.
There is no transmission dip stick for a manual transmission. You have to get under the car, remove the filler plug, and either look in the hole or stick your finger in to see how much fluid is in there.WTH? How do you fill it? Whats so hard about having a filler neck? Does anyone know the best way to fill? where is the filler plug?
The dipstick is a dealer only special tool.
Yes, a transmission from a 98 Sebring will work in a 97 Sebring. This is because they are both a 2.5 liter engine and both are auto sticks.
It depends on where it is on the stick. The full mark should represent 5 quarts of oil. The add mark means you are a quart low (4 quarts)
All Chrysler four-speed automatic transmissions are very sensitive to the quality of the transmission fluid. Only use Chrysler ATF+[3 or 4] in these transmissions. Do not use Dexron or Mercon, no matter what the manual or dip stick says.
The first thing I'd recommend is to check the transmission fluid level to make sure it isn't OVER FULL. My son, bless his heart, was using my 2005 Sebring, and checked the transmission fluid, without the motor running with the car in Park. He saw that the fluid level was low and put more fluid in it. However, to properly check the transmission fluid level, on an automatic, the car has to be running and in Park. This way, will raise the fluid level on the stick to the correct reading. When my son put the extra fluid in it, now my level reads way too full when running. I have to drain it out, cause it leaks out all over the place when the car is parked in the driveway. Just a thought that might save you a very expensive trip to the mechanic. If you take it into a shop, no matter what the problem, they'll be sure to "find" all sorts of scarey things wrong with your transmission. The Chrysler dealer here did mine and told me my transmission was shot and only had about 5,000 miles left on it at the most. I checked the fluid the right way myself and have over 25,000 on the "shot transmission" and still running strong.
Pull the transmission dip stick out and read it. It will tell you what fluid to use and how to check it. With the older Chrysler automatics, they want the engine running and the transmission in neutral to get an accurate reading. ATF+4
