underneath the rear of the truck - lets down with a crank
The 2002 Ford Explorer XLT came with P235/70R16 tires from the factory. Check the sticker on the end of the driver's door - it will indicate the tire size and recommended inflation pressure for your Explorer (Helpfull)
If you have your manual it will show not to change tire size as it changes the stability of the vehicle
Tire size: P245 70/R16 for Eddie Bauer or Limited P235 70/R16 for XLS and XLT
You can view the 2002 Ford Explorer owners manual online at motorcraftservice Click on Owner Guides ( the " changing the tires " section starts on page 237 , it has instructions with drawings )
On a 1999 Ford Explorer ( using the factory jack ) Front tire ( there are " hooks " on the front of the lower control arms ) Rear tire ( under the axle tube , below the leaf spring )
If it's not in a spot, which is really convenient to the spare, or new tire, then just keep it stowed in the back.
A grinding noise in the front of a 2002 Explorer after a new tire change could be caused by several issues. One possibility is that the brake pads or rotors are misaligned or improperly installed, leading to contact with the wheel. Another potential cause is that the new tires may not be properly balanced or installed, resulting in uneven wear or contact with suspension components. It's also worth checking for any foreign objects lodged in the brakes or wheel assembly.
To remove the spare tire from a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, first locate the spare tire winch access hole, usually found in the rear cargo area. Use the provided tire iron or a socket wrench to turn the winch handle counterclockwise, which will lower the tire from its storage position under the vehicle. Once the tire is fully lowered, pull it out from the cradle and set it aside. Be sure to secure the winch mechanism after removing the tire to prevent it from getting damaged.
I believe the Explorer does NOT use a timing belt, but rather a timing chain
pay someone else to do it
