there is a hose coming from bottom of rad up to a housing right under the altenator. take these two 8 mm bolts out of the housing and the thermastat is located inside the housing. I have found that it is alot easier to remove the alt. and the mounting bracket to get to the housing.
thermostat? engine size?
Spring faces down toward engine.
how do you know when thermostat is bad in 19997 Pontiac sunfire
kick it.
how do i change it
To change the thermostat in a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire, begin by ensuring the engine is cool, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant from the radiator and remove the upper radiator hose connected to the thermostat housing. Unbolt the thermostat housing, remove the old thermostat, and clean the mating surfaces before installing the new thermostat along with a new gasket. Reassemble the housing, reconnect the hose, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery.
we need to change out the thermostat on a 1996 VW 2.4 diesel engine Transporter and we need the schematic for it; where is the darned thing and how do you get it out to change it
To change the thermostat in this Lexus model, follow the upper radiator hose to the aluminum housing--the thermostat is located in that housing.
I had this same problem with my 1996 Sunfire awhile ago. I took it to two mechanics and they both determined that it was a leaking head gasket and it was causing air to get trapped in the thermostat to make it run hot. Hope this helps you out. Good luck.
you used to have to change the complete housing, maybe now there is a kit to change only the thermostat, because you can remove it,with care.
Remove the water hose from the top of your 1996 Chevrolet 2500 thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Lift the old thermostat out and drop in the new thermostat.
