Without knowing the year of your car, I can offer only some general information.
Is the lighter dead? You're looking to repair it? Before you dig out the jaws of life to get at the lighter socket, check the fuse to be sure it's still OK. If so, I'd try buying a replacement element for the lighter. They are very available at parts stores and should screw to your existent knob. If replacing the element doesn't solve your problem, it probably means that the socket has died. They do that. Getting at the socket might be a challenge. In my '96, the lighter is mounted forward of the shifter in the console. It looks like I'd have to take quite a bit of plastic apart to get at it. If this is the case on your car, just go slowly, be careful and put all the little screws in a jar so you don't lose them. Once you get to the socket, removal and replacement should be fairly obvious.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the old lighter and remove it from the panel. Install the new lighter by connecting the wiring harness and securing it back in place, then reattach the trim panel and reconnect the battery.
