Removing starter, 90 Chevy berettaThis one is actually quite simple. Looking straight down at it, you can see the wires running to the solenoid and the starter itself. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery before doing anything to prevent any accidents. If memory serves me right, you'll need either a small wrench or socket to loosen the nut holding the wires to the starter. Disconnect those, and set them aside. Now, looking up at the starter from underneath, there are two larger 15mm bolts that connect the starter to the block. Simply loosen those (smaller one in front first) and be careful: the starter is a lot heavier than it looks! From there, installation is just reversed. Make sure not to overtighten or strip those mounting bolts. Otherwise the gear inside the starter won't hit the flywheel properly or at all, and you'll end up stripping that gear, leading to replacement all over again. Reconnect the wiring, making sure everything is where it was to begin with, reattach the terminal on the battery, and let her rip!

Where would a starter be in a 1990 Chevy Lumina?

I just replaced the starter motor on my 1990 4 cylinder engine Chevy Lumina. The starter is located in front of the oil pan. It was reachable and can be seen from under the front of the car a little to the right. You have to remove a three bolt attached plastic part by the oil pan to be able to get to one of the starter motor bolts. Good luck.
