yes but you may need to reprogram the anti-theft system. I am not quite sure how to do this. Either ask your dealer or buy a haynes or chilton manual. cut the yellow small wire from ign. switch in the column up by the switch. this is the passlock wire.

How do you bypass passlock on 1997 Chevy lumina?

Bypassing the Passlock system on a 1997 Chevy Lumina typically involves locating the Passlock wires and connecting them directly to bypass the ignition lock. This usually requires cutting the yellow wire from the Passlock module and connecting it to the ignition wire to allow the vehicle to start without the security system engaging. However, bypassing the security system can lead to potential issues and may not be legal in some areas, so it’s advisable to consult a professional or consider repairs instead.

How do you reset passlock on a 2003 chevy impala?

To reset the Passlock system on a 2003 Chevy Impala, first, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position without starting the engine. Leave the key in this position for about 10 minutes until the security light turns off. Then, turn the key to the "Off" position for a few seconds and repeat the process two more times. After the third cycle, the Passlock system should reset, allowing you to start the engine.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT had can't remove key from ignition and now ignition won't turn on steering locked?

This is a common problem with GM vehicles of this time. More than likely your ignition cylinder lock is bad. The problem being that, technically you need to be able to turn the key to remove the lock from the ignition swithc. Pickup a service manual for $20.00 from the autoparts store, it will explain the removal and installation. Auto Zone, should have the parts in stock, look at the ignition cylinder lock and the switch and see how they go together, it will give you an idea of how to remove the cylinder without damaging the ignition switch, since the normal method wont work here. Here is a way around removing the lock if the key will not turn, I used it on a 99 Grand AM, it may work for the Grand Prix, not sure. If you just drill out the semi-rectangular shaped area behind the retainer pin you can break the lever style spring on the lock cylinder and the retainer pin will come out allowing you to remove the lock cylinder(make sure to leave the area immediately (approximately ¼") behind the retainer pin so you can reinstall the new lock cylinder). Once you are done you will need to reprogram the passlock system. Google for Passlock 2 reprogran, reset, etc. Good Luck!

Is there a fuse for the passlock anti theft system on a 1997 cavalier the light is always on and car will not start?

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t172710.html I found out simple way to disable the passlock1 prmanently. I did it on my Cavalier 96 and it works so far. You can use it if ocasionally you are still able to start your car. All you need to do is to start the car (with your semidefective passlock sensor), and then disconnect the three wires plug (wires that run from the lock cylinder to the instrument panel) from the instrument panel while engine is running. Engine will start the next time without any passlock "authorization", but "theft system'" light will stay on. If you do not like it, you can remove LED from the instrument cluster board. I am not shure if the disablement will work after battery gets disconnected. Possible, that you may repeat it all over.
