The pcm of a 2001 Taurus should be located under the hood. The unit is bolted onto the firewall on the passenger side.
Passenger side on the fire wall below the ignition control module, then behind your glove box you pull it out
the pcm is located along the upper edge of the firewall in the engine compartment..
The idle speed is controlled by the computer ( PCM , Powertrain Control Module )

The wiring harness is bolted to that end and most of the PCM is " hidden " behind the glove box area
