The fuel air mixture is controled by the car's computer with information it gets from the oxygen sensor and several other sensors measuring air temperature, manifold pressure outside air pressure, air flow into the engine, throttle position and others I'm sure, the most influential of these is the oxygen sensor that is located in the exhaust pipe on the passenger's side just behind the engine, changing it is very easy and could bring your car's fuel economy back to what it should be.
