For the S197 (05-09) there is no manual override.
First, find the motor for the sunroof. There will be a manual override on or around the motor that you can turn to close the stuck sunroof.
You try pushing on the brakes while trying to put it in drive?
Replace the motor for the power top. But first see if it is getting ample power, a bad alternator could keep the top from working properly.
take it to a mechanic
Perhaps your brake interlock isn't working. That's the deveice that releases the shifter when you depress the brake. Most cars have a manual override. You probably will remove a cover and press a button with a pen or screwdriver. It should be near the shifter. Check your owner's manual for details.
To open a VW Beetle convertible manually, first, ensure the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off. Locate the manual release lever or latch, usually found near the driver's seat or at the front of the convertible top. Pull or push the lever to release the top, then gently lift the convertible top back to its fully open position. If the top is stuck, check for any obstructions or debris that may be preventing it from opening smoothly.
No it is not. It is a mechanical fault.
Water may be getting stuck in the convertible track.
Stuck as in what? Is it like not closing/opening, or is it literally stuck in between stages? If its stuck half way, usually starting the car again or pressing the button for longer will start it again, otherwise get a repair center to look at it.
Check the coolant level. Or, thermostat could be stuck in open position.
