On a 1985 Chevy z28 camaro what is causing it to run for only a little bit?

have you checked the fuel pump, fuel filter, when was last time MAF was replaced. Also there is a TPS that needs to be reset on the throttle cable if you have a TPI. But more than likely its the fuel pump
