The Pontiac Montana engine will overheat if the coolant gets low and is not refilled properly. If coolant is added, an air block WILL OCCUR preventing proper circulation unless owners manual is followed. There are 2 blleeder valves in coolant system. They must be opened & closed in proper sequence (see manual) or engine will overheat. I know-been there! Yes, it controls the coolant flow around the engine block, without coolant the engine would overheat.
A leaking heater core will cause the engine to overheat because the coolant is leaking out.
yes, especially if the leak is causing coolant to leak, you can run out of coolant. then overheat.
Overheat IndicationYou've answered your own question. If the "overheat indicator" is indicating overheating, then the engine and the coolant is OVERHEATED!!!!!!Overheating is a serious situation and any indication of such requires that a qualified automotive technician check the vehicle and determine the cause for the overheating, and correct it to prevent permanent, and possibly very expensive, damage to the engine.Or, another remote possibility is that the engine/coolant temperature sensing/indicating system has become defective.
Adding coolant to a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is very easy to do. The coolant can be directly added to the radiator. Make sure the engine is not hot before adding the coolant.
cools the engine. without a fan, the car will overheat and the coolant will boil. the fan controls this from happening by cooling the coolant as it passes through the radiator.
If coolant is up to proper level and cooling fans are working - should not overheat
Check the engine coolant... Is it full? yes coolant level is full
If by water you mean engine coolant, yes. Loss of coolant, antifreeze, is a major cause of overheating.

The reason behind the over heating of your fiero is the fact its an RMR layout and your cooling system is in the front end of the car. The time the coolant travels is not quick enought to cool the engine as fast as it is needed.
