To check the transmission fluid on a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero with a 4-cylinder engine, locate the transmission dipstick, which is typically found near the back of the engine compartment. Start the engine and let it warm up, then shift through the gears while holding the brake. With the engine running, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then check the fluid level; it should be between the "full" and "add" marks. Make sure to use the appropriate type of transmission fluid if you need to add any.
