If you mean timing chain and gears...Yes...they still install dot to dot. With the cam gear dot at 6 o'clock position and crank gear at 12 the engine is ready to fire on #6 cylinder. To bring it to #1 after installing the timing chain and gears, rotate the crank until they are both at the 12 o'clock position.
On mine there are a series of notches cut into the edge of the main pulley nearest to the engine block. The notches are not deep and can be filled by dirt and paint and so can be hard to see.

The timing chain on a 57 plate Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi is designed to last the lifetime of the engine, so it typically does not require routine replacement like a timing belt. However, it should be inspected for wear or damage during regular servicing, especially if you notice any unusual engine noises or performance issues. If any signs of stretching or failure are detected, it’s advisable to replace the timing chain promptly to avoid serious engine damage. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for specific recommendations.
