you must remove steering wheel and the whole key mount assembley and combo switch.

The ticking could possibly be from a timing key going out. Having mine replaced presently.
get a bigger hammer
Unless there is something specifically wrong with it make sure the battery is charged and that it has gas in it and turn the key. Is there something wrong with it?
remove the + battery cable for a minute
Our 1995 Tracker Sidekick has a spare on the rear door , it has a tire lock that your ignition or door key should unlock, however our keys do not fit the lock. I may have to drill or grind it off and replace it with anotherone
You have a short somewhere Start at the coil and work back toward your battery You will need an ohm or multimeter
If the starter will not engage on a 1994 Geo Tracker, it is possible that the solenoid needs to be replaced. There could also be a loose wire on the starter solenoid. Also check that the battery is fully charged. The battery could have gone dead while it was being driven.
check the timing belt. or on the 1996-1998 the crankshaft bolt comes loose and shears woodruff key in crank shaft.
put trany into neutral and put t-case in neurtal put the key into the ignition and turn 1 click so the stereing lock is off and you are good to go
with a barrel lock key
check your battery. if your battery is Ok have your alternator and starter checked at a local Autozone or similar store
two ways 1. if you have the ignition key and it still turns the barrel then you turn to pos two and insert a sharp object in to a hole in the side to push in a pin, the barrel should then just slide out...2. if you do not have the key or it will not turn the barrel then you will have to resort to a big hammer and sharpened chisel, this method will involve replacing more than just the barrel as the whole steering lock unit needs to be smashed off....good luck.....robb
