Anyone?? I need some insight about what do to about this situation.. That rusted out soup can is a vacuum reservoir. It is part of the thermactor system that pumps air either into the exhaust stream just before the catalytic converter, or into the intake manifold, or just back out into the atmoshere. On the left side of the engine (drivers view) next to the ignition coil are two vacuum solenoids. One is the TAD and the other is the TAB. From the vacuum source on the top of the intake plenum a hose runs behind the engine and into the the MAN stem on the "rusted can" the other vacuum is attached to the AMP stem of tne can and runs back behind the engine and becomes the vacuum source for the TAB and TAD solenoids. The PCM operates these two solenoids as required. If the can is truly rusted out and not able to hold a vacuum then it needs to be replaced. It needs to be airtight. My quess is the best bet is a salvage yard.
