That is the " check engine " light and means that a malfunction has been detected
that is effecting the emission control system . It could be anything from the gas cap
not installed correctly to a sensor . As long as the light isn't flashing and the engine
temperature and oil pressure are O.K. use the vehicle a few times because sometimes
the problem will correct itself and the light will go off . If the light doesn't go off then
have the vehicle scanned for trouble code(s) to help diagnose and then repair the
problem
There is'nt one on the guage cluster but there is on the motor up by the thermostat housing
Behind gauge cluster, right side of steering column
Yes, but you need to be sure you're swapping a cluster from 1991-1995 V6 engine only. The tach will not be accurate if using a cluster from a 4 cylinder, and will not work at all using a cluster from 1996. This is VERY easy to do! You can swap them out and everything on the cluster will work just fine except for the oil pressure gauge. It will say, "0" this is because the old oil sending unit was designed to make your dummy light on the old cluster come on in the event of oil loss. When you replace your cluster with the one with the gauges you will need a new oil sending unit. Tell the parts guy that you need an oil sending unit for a 96 Beretta WITH gauge NOT light. It is easy to replace. It is located on the front of the motor about half way down!
It is not so much the gauge as the stepper motor that controls the needle. They can be found on Ebay for less than $15 each. Dealer charges $600+ for a new cluster so invest an hour of your time, some soldering skill and $15 to fix it yourself. The motor has to be de-soldered and then solder the new one back into the cluster. For complete instructions with pictures visit out enthusiasts forum at www.trailvoy.com
They all break it seems like. You could go to a junk yard and hope to get a working one for around30 dollars. Its the motor in the back of the spedo.

Bad stepper motor in instrument cluster. Very common problem. Search for "speedometer whizard" in Google.
If the speedo in an 04 Monte Carlo doesnot work it is the stepper motor in the cluster. Go to eBay 04 Monte Carlo cluster stepper motors scroll down and by a set of motors .INSTRUTIONS COME WITH THEM TO REPLACE THEM vERY SIMPLE TO DO SO.
No, it should not. Unless the connection of the gauge on the motor is damaged in a way as to cause the motor to leak fluid (water or coolant). But just a broken gauge should not affect the performance of the motor.
Check the button on the right side of the gauge cluster, if that still does not fix the problem check the relays under the hood marked "right retractor motor" and "left retractor motor". There are also fuses for the motors underneath the dash.
wiring to the instrument cluster is faulty. Doors will not lock when gauge cluster is disconnected because they share the circuit. Take out gauges and clean/dialectric grease connections...problem should go away
You need to add water to the radiator, it may be low and you will overheat your motor.
