With the flywheel timing mark aligned at zero, #1 cylinder (front left facing engine) should be at top dead center and distributor rotor should be pointing at #1 post (1st post clockwise past the battery connector on the dist cap). If the distributor has been removed and reinstalled, the rotor may point at the opposite post (180deg out). If so, the distributor will have to be lifted enough to allow the rotor to be turned back to the #1 post. Be careful, if you try firing the engine with the timing significantly off, she will kick back into the starter, possibly damaging the starter gear or worse....! Once started, set the timing to 12deg btdc....good luck! Mike

It's in the distributor also called a hall sensor.
According to about.com , # 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the DRIVERS SIDE on the 1992 front wheel drive Cadillac models 4.9 L
To adjust the timing on a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado, first, ensure the engine is at operating temperature and then turn off the engine. Use a timing light and connect it to the battery and number one spark plug wire, then start the engine. Locate the timing mark on the harmonic balancer and align it with the appropriate mark on the timing tab, adjusting the distributor's position as needed to achieve the correct timing specification, typically around 4 degrees BTDC. Finally, tighten the distributor hold-down bolt and recheck the timing to ensure it remains accurate.

Cam sensor is inside the distributor under pick-up coil. Some say whole distributor has to come out to replace, some have snuck it out by removing pick-up coil.
mark position of old distributor on motor and on old dist, also mark position of rotor. Remove old distributor, mark the position on new distributor, move rotor to the marked position, drop in
The 92 tempo doesn't have a crankshaft sensor. However the multi-port fuel injected models do have a Camshaft Position Sensor located near the distributor.
To reset the ride control system on a 1996 Cadillac Eldorado, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface. Turn the ignition key to the "On" position without starting the engine. Then, locate the ride control fuse in the fuse box and remove it for approximately 10 seconds before reinserting it. Finally, turn the ignition off, and then start the vehicle to see if the ride control system has reset.
In a 1996 Cadillac Eldorado, the timing control sensor, also known as the crankshaft position sensor, is typically located near the crankshaft at the front of the engine. It is mounted on the engine block, often near the harmonic balancer. Accessing it may require removing some components for better visibility and reach. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for specific instructions and diagrams.
On cars without distributors, the engine relies on sensors to send fire to the plugs. Sensors are commonly used to find the position of the crankshaft to determine the proper time to fire the plugs.
