10 degrees before TDC. With timing light you need to unplug a jumper to disconnect signal from computer while testing. Jumper located on Left hand side of vehicle under the hood behind battery on right. Possibly has a black plastic cover which needs removed to access. It covers the starter solenoid so if you see a bunch of wires under a plastic cover next to brake booster you are in the right place. Remove cover and look for a wire with a little plug that can be gently removed. Do so with timing light on and engine warmed and you have your reading rom the right hand side of vehicle pointed at approx 45 degrees towards the pulley. If
It's 5 degrees BTDC.
do u set the timing marks at btdc or tdc on a 2.5 mercury cougar
There are 6 marks on the crank pulley, the first red line is 5°ATDC then white TDC then 5° BTDC and so on ending with the yellow 20°. (should be set to 20° BTDC.) These should be viewed from the drivers side of the car; align the marks with the pin protruding from the front cover.
timing marks should be on the harmonic balance.above harmonic balance should be a a flat metal pointer. the edge of this pointer will lign up with marks when being timed
8º BTDC
The left most notch is 0 BTDC, the middle notch is 10 BTDC, the right most is 14 BTDC for automatic, or 16 BTDC for manual trans. The indicator is a pin sticking out of the timing cover above the crank pulley.Put a jumper wire between T and E1 on the Diagnostic connector and adjust the distributer for 10 BTDC.Remove the jumper and the timing should advance to the rightmost mark, or a little farther.
On a 1987 2.8L S10, the timing marks align on the harmonic balancer and the timing cover. You should look for a notch or mark on the harmonic balancer and align it with the appropriate timing degree mark on the timing cover. Typically, for proper ignition timing, you would align the marks at around 0 degrees BTDC, but always refer to the specific service manual for precise settings.

For a 1993 Ford Aerostar with a 4.0-liter engine, the timing order is crucial for proper engine operation. The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6, and the timing should be set to 10 degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Center) at idle for optimal performance. It's important to ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft align correctly during installation. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for specific procedures and torque specifications.
If you want to know the timing specs then here it is 4 degrees before top dead center / BTDC. Top dead center is zero on the timing bracket / Tab.BTDC. are the marks on the left side of the zero on the tab.ATDC / After top dead center are the marks on the right side of the timing tab.Hope this answered your question. If not please ask it again.
you need to pull your timing belt set your cams to zero they have timing marks and crank your engine to tdc and put your timing belt back on make sure everthing is at zero or you will not be able to get your timing right by moving your distributer.
