I got it. I decided to disassemble the pump and found that I had replaced the pump gear assembly cause it was broken. What I failed to do was inspect the two pump pieces. When the previous gear assembly broke, the broken pieces made a half inch wide and a quarter inch deep groove on one side of the pump and was loosing line pressure. For those of you replacing broken pump gears, be sure to inspect complete assembly before installing it. Smart1es
take the tranny out and pull the converter out of the front of the tranny and put new converter in and make sure you hear it click twice when putting it back onto the tranny and reinstall tranny.
Put tranny up then install the torque converter to tranny first , NOTE : Make sure when installing the torque converter to the tranny that you can only slide your middle finger in bettween the tranny and torque converter , if the torque converter is not all the way in, the torque converter will tare up the tranny shaft.
I would worry more about the tranny than the U-joints, a lot of people run a stall converter and don't have a problem but it puts a lot more stress on the tranny.
low transmission fluid or your tranny could be going out.
lack of tranny oil would probably be the culprit. if not tranny fluid then you are probably in need of a transmission overhaul.
I just paid 1800.00 for a rebuilt tranny for my 2000 windstar. I paid $1600 for a complete overhaul after my 2001 Windstar stopped moving (except downhill and a push).
No, that converter won't fit either tranny.
The torque converter has leaked down. There should be a small plug that can be removed and you can fill it. First let the transmission run a little bit to fill the converter, then check the level and fill as necessary (the pump is filling the converter). Or you can pull the tranny back and fill the converter that way.
Either it's low on tranny fluid or it may be due for an overhaul
Its overhaul time for your tranny sorry to say.
There is a good chance you will need to overhaul your tranny. My 99 Venture would hard shift after driving for a while. Turn it off and restart and all would be good. Then it would act up again. It is usually caused by either the torque converter or the valve body. Get both replaced. I have done 30k in the vehicle since overhaul and it runs perfectly.
the torque converter is a lock up, so its like an overdrive. So, change your torque converter and that should solve the problem> Also, check the fuses.
