Around 1888 a Second Marcus Car (left) was built, which was powered by 1hp, for-stroke engine and also included many of the features were missing from Marcus the first vehicle. In 1884 in France Mr Edouard Delamare-Deboutteville and Mr Leon Malandin patented a vehicle that consisted a four stroke, liquid fuelled engine mounted on an old four wheeled horse- drawn cart.

The first purpose built car which was powdered by an internal combustion engine was invented by Mr Karl Benz in Germany in 1885 which he built and tested in 1886 and named Benz Motorwagen (right). It was powered by a 954 cc 4 stroke, petrol fuelled engine.
