In a 2003 PT Cruiser, the back window defroster is typically activated using a button located on the center console, near the climate control settings. Look for a symbol resembling a rear window with wavy lines, indicating the defroster function. Once pressed, it will help clear any frost or condensation from the rear window.
Back Window Defroster
There can be several reasons a rear defroster fails even when the light on the defroster switch indicates it is on. The most likely reason is that one of the metal defroster tabs along the side of the back window has separated from the defroster. If the defroster tabs check out as still attached to the defroster then you need to do a little checking with a volt meter. The first thing to check is the voltage directly on the tabs themselves. This should be around 12-14 volts. If the voltage is zero then there is very likely a broken wire someplace between the defroster relay and the defroster. If you have 12-14 volts a the defroster tabs then there is something going on with the grid which is normally broken defroster elements, those long thin horizontal lines on the back window.

The rear defroster (demister) on a Subaru Legacy is built into the window. The lines going across the back window are actually the defrosters. If the vehicle is equipped with a rear wiper, the switch for this should be located below the radio and heater controls.

When you turn on your back window defroster, it activates a heating element that can create electrical interference. This interference may disrupt the radio signal, causing static or loss of reception. Additionally, the defroster draws significant power from the vehicle's electrical system, which can affect radio performance if the system is not designed to handle the load.
To fix the back defroster in a VW Cabrio, first check the fuse related to the defroster circuit, as a blown fuse can prevent it from functioning. If the fuse is intact, inspect the wiring and connections at the rear window for damage or corrosion. Additionally, ensure the defroster switch is working properly. If these steps don't resolve the issue, the rear window heating element may be faulty and might require replacement.
