A malfunctioning or dead speed sensor can cause a massive array of problems that are not necessarily inclusive or exclusive to themselves or a malfunctioning speed sensor/VSS respectively. The best way to tell if your speed sensor is malfunctioning is to see if any of the following problems started to occur simultaneously (btw, these are all for an automatic transmission):
Transmission is revving higher before it changes gears (most common symptom)
Transmission engages overdrive late, or in Top Gear, never (also very common)
Brakes depressing erratically or harder than normal when coasting (somewhat common)
Speedometer is behaving erratically or does not move (more common in later cars)
Check Engine Light is apparently, but sporadically (common in older cars)
O/D Off light is blinking, either at higher speeds or constantly (more common in Japanese cars)
Anyway, I suggest taking your car to a mechanic to have them run a computer diagnostics test on it. I do NOT suggest taking the car to a Transmission Service Site, such as AAMCO or Mr. Transmission. The best place you could take it would be the dealer, really.
where is the speed sensor located on 2003 Toyota matrix
The 2003 Trailblazer speed sensor is mounted on the transmission. It is on the passenger side of the output end.
The speed sensor on a 2003 Silverado is located on the transmission. It is just behind the large pumpkin shape that is called the hub.
speed sensor is located to the rear of the transmission chrome (retangular) cover. there are four bolts on the cover, if you are looking at the bike from the right side just behind the cover rear bolt is the speed sensor. loosen and remove Allen bolt with 3/16 Allen and rotate sensor just enough to pry out. it is in there snug. i just removed and cleaned my sensor. there were metal shaving. My symptoms were no speedometer , odometer, and turn signal not turning off after conmpleting turn.
The output speed sensor on the transmission is also the vehicle speed sensor. The output sensor is the two wire sensor on the front of the trans all the way to the driver side.
It is located in the transmission.
On the tranny.
There is no speed sensor reset. IT must be repalced if failed.
There is a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and 4 ABS wheel speed sensors, one at each wheel.
