when you turn on the key and get no dash lights example check engine or seatbelts. vehicle will still turn over but not fire up. but the dash lights are the key if they come on when you turn the switch and you hear the fuel pump pressure up then the switch is fine. would need to know more of the problem to be sure but this is a good start.

What are the symptoms of a faulty ignition switch on a 2004 buick regal?

My experience with a faulty ignition switch on this generation Regal include random warning lights coming on together and turning off at the same time. Eventually, the car will sometimes stall when the turn signal switch is used. This is due to the turn signal switch "bumping" the wires leading into the ignition switch. Apparently, the wire connections inside the ignition switch sometimes tend to loosen. Dealer cost runs around $350 to $400 to replace.

How do you know that you need an ignition switch or a ignition coil?

To determine if you need an ignition switch or an ignition coil, you can look for specific symptoms. If your vehicle doesn't start, but lights and accessories function normally, the ignition switch may be faulty. Conversely, if the engine cranks but doesn’t start, or if you experience misfires or stalling, the ignition coil could be the issue. Testing these components with a multimeter can provide further confirmation of their functionality.
