I'm no expert (nor am I sure what kind of heater core you're talking about), but I have two suggestions:
1. It's poorly designed for the temperatures it's been operating at, and heated so much it broke (due to expansion).
2. It cooled too quickly after being hot. Imagine heating something up, and then dunking it in ice cold water. LOTS of stress on the materials occurs. That could lead to breaking too.
Crack in the heater core
Corrosion.
You prob have to replace the heater core
Heater core may be air bound and have to be bled Heater core may be plugged or restricted Thermostat may not be opening allowing coolant flow to core
leaking heater core
Most likely a bad heater core
On the passengers side floor board or if the heater core just has a small crack then it will fog up the windshield when the defroster is turned on and smell very bad......
Check inside the car undre the dash , check the heater core.
Bad heater core. Its a pain to replace. get a Hanes manual if you wanna try to do this.
Never flushing & replacing your anti-freeze/coolant...
