The HVAC system on the RAM is fairly complex compared to other trucks. There are four sets of doors that control temperature and air flow in the system and all are controlled by DC motors connected to plastic doors. All four systems have a common fail mode of the motor breaking the plastic connector/door and failing to function properly. A video is available on YouTube showing how to get access to motors and diagnose problems. While the operation is complex, there is an aftermarket solution that makes repair fairly simple and within the capability of most shade tree mechanics. Check my bio page for links.

To replace the heater core on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the coolant. Remove the dashboard and the necessary components to access the heater core, including the HVAC housing. Disconnect the heater core hoses and the mounting screws, then carefully remove the old heater core. Install the new heater core, reassemble the HVAC housing, and reconnect everything before refilling the coolant and reconnecting the battery.
