Front hubs my be wearing out.
it could be the idler puller rubbing on the bearings. we had to replace it on our 2006 Chevy trailblazer ext.

Excessive wear, or lack of oil. Or both. Generally lack of oil is what causes the excessive wear.

sounds like tire/road noise
Mine had a clicking noise and it turned out to be the front passanger side axle assembly.
Excessive velocity
it is the idler pully. i just replaced mine and all the whining stopped
Possibly just an adjustment on the rockers. Hydraulic system. Hopefully that's it.
I think that's where the spare tire is kept, that where mine was.
Very rarely have to shim a starter. If there is excessive noise or a disengagement problem it will need to be shimmed.
