It typically operates through a cable system that engages the brake calipers or drum brakes when the lever or pedal is pulled. This mechanism ensures that the vehicle remains stationary when parked, preventing it from rolling. In some modern vehicles, electronic parking brakes may use an electric motor instead of a traditional cable system.
