this can be cause by the crank position sensor if the fuel pump is running well then the only thing that cold cause the problem is crank position sensor
I, too, would like to know the answer! I have a 1993 Polaris Trail Boss ATV with the 250 cc engine... it tends to backfire when letting off the throttle.
Too much PSI.
Out of time.
Backfire is normally caused by engine out of time, or spark plug wires installed incorrectly.
As with any engine, timing, and also carb problems.
It's lean. You have to figure out why.
If you are running at high rpms and turn the key off the unburned fuel will be pumped from the cylinders in the engine into the muffler. The muffler is still hot enough to ignite the unburned fuel.
Timing is off. You may need a new timing belt.
Running too rich, timing off. Search your engine and "backfire"
Backfire is an explosion produced by a running internal combustion engine that occurs in the intake or exhaust system rather than inside the combustion chamber,
Several issues can cause a back fire:OverheatingLean mixtureFaulty ignition
sticky valves. marvel mystery oil in the intake thru a vacuum line while engine is running. it will smoke out the exhaust for a minute and the neighbors will be mad but oh well
