aint that the icv

it regulates air at idle when the throttle body is closed

this stops dips in revs or stalling when foot is off the accelerator and on the brake

it lets an amount of air to bypass the closed throttle valve to keep a steady idle rev speed of engine

it also works when a heavy load is placed on engine at idle / closed throttle

heavy load usually being radiator fan coming on at temperature

also aircon switched on although the cars ecu may have an inbuilt raised idle speed for when aircon is switched on.

What is a manifold on a Vauxhall vectra 1996?

A manifold on a 1996 Vauxhall Vectra refers to the component that connects the engine's intake or exhaust system to the cylinders. The intake manifold distributes the air-fuel mixture to the engine's cylinders, while the exhaust manifold collects exhaust gases from the cylinders and directs them to the exhaust system. Proper functioning of the manifold is crucial for engine performance, efficiency, and emissions control. Issues with the manifold can lead to poor engine performance or increased emissions.

What does the purge control solenoid do?

The purge control solenoid is a component of the evaporative emission control system in a vehicle. Its primary function is to regulate the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the engine's intake manifold, where they can be burned during combustion. By controlling this flow, the solenoid helps reduce harmful emissions and improve fuel efficiency. When the solenoid is activated, it allows the engine to use the stored vapors, preventing them from being released into the atmosphere.
