I know one thing it does. My air conditioner wouldn't come on. The replacement of the module fixed the problem but now the radio is locked. The dash indicator light that said a door was open when it was not is now working properly. Seems to control quite a bit of the car.
yes
It is under the dash near the steering column.
Its under the dash near the drivers left knee area
There is no such thing as a bypass module. The best I can figure is the Body Control Module. If this is the case then you will have to find a shop with a scanner to do it. If you have NOT made the necessary repairs then the light WILL come back on.
How do I test body control module and is it hard to do..
It doesn't have a body control module.

Look under the dash by the drivers left foot kick panel. It is a rectagular box with three cables going into it
The body control module can have everything to do with it. If the engine computer and the body control module do not have communication between one another than the engine will start then die after 2 sec.
where is the location of the body control module on a 1998 grand am se
It is called a throttle body control module. It is in the engine compartment on the top of the engine.
The body control module is located behind the glove box.
