The fuel pump inertia switch ( shut off switch ) is a safety device that breaks

the electrical circuit so no power goes to the electric fuel pump if the vehicle

receives a substantial jolt such as in a collision or even if it hits a really bad

pothole . The switch has to be manually reset by pushing the button down

that has popped up on top of the switch if no gas is leaking or you don't smell

gas
