I've worked with air compressors for 30 years and that sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. Ask him how to check the blinker fluid.
Have your mechanic run the serpentine belt around the compressor. I had a bad compressor last year, and the mechanic just re-routed the belt until I could afford a new compressor-then he installed it and re-routed the belt again so it would run the compressor. Purchase a serpentine belt the same vehicle but without A/C. The shorter belt will drive all the other accessories and is routed the same as the belt used with A/C, except for the compressor.
if the car does not already have a/c i recomend going to a mechanic. this will require mounting brackets for the compressor, and installing components under the dashboard. this is going to be very costley even without mechanic labor fees. it may be cheaper just to buy a car with a/c installed.
it is almost simple just look in you car's mannual and check what the air presure should be in your compressor, and if its not like its supose to be then just ask a mechanic for help
Just follow the low side line from the compressor, it's installed there. The low side line is the larger of the two at the compressor and ends at the firewall.
Check to make sure the belt is routed around the compressor pulley. Also check the wiring connector at the compressor in case it was dislodged.
Absolutely not!! It will ruin it. It is designed to work in a wall in a horizontal position. The compressor depends on internal oil to keep itself lubricated and cool ,,,,The oil will plug up the compressor and just not work.
If the thermostat failed it is not the fault of the mechanic, he didn't build the thermostat he just installed it. If it failed because of improper installation that is another story. But you are also at fault, maybe more so than the mechanic ever hear of a temperature gauge. it doesn't just get to hot all of a sudden that happens with not stopping when it get in the red zone.
its not easy its control from inside panel and the computer there is no easy way just put freon in the system if it does not come on take it to the mechanic. Dont waste your time
I'M NOT A MECHANIC but I know on my 1995 XLT when I select defrost the air conditioning system compressor will cut in and out in order to de-humidify the air. I was just wondering if your A/C compressor pulley turns or if something is seized up ?
If system was opened to the atmosphere it will have to be evacuated prior to charging
Get a 2nd opinion from another mechanic or friend.
Just did this on 1995 Grand caravan. I bought a new pump for about 190.00 at autozone. Pump is inside the tank. My mechanic installed it for 200.00.
