There were no VIN numbers in 1948. There was however manufacture data plates. They are most often located on the firewall, door post, or glove box. But they may be someplace else. You will know it when you find it.

I have no experience with Plymouth's but my '55 olds has a plate located under the hood passenger side on top of the fire wall with the vin. Most cars have a plate of some kind with ID. numbers. Some are located inside the door panels, so look around carefully.
