The "Z" in Z-28 and the "Z" in any of GM's vehicle options stands for Zora Arkus-Duntov. He was the GM engineer who convinced GM brass to market the corvette as a performance car in 1953. His suspension as well as engine modifications made the corvette a tough competitor on the track and made Zora a legend at GM. Today whenever you see a "Z" attached to a GM model, it is a tribute to Zora Arkus-Duntov's engineering.
