The ECM, or extracellular matrix, is a complex network of proteins and carbohydrates that provides structural and biochemical support to surrounding cells. It typically consists of collagen, elastin, fibronectin, and various glycoproteins and proteoglycans. The ECM can vary in appearance depending on the tissue type, but it generally forms a gel-like or fibrous scaffold that influences cell behavior, differentiation, and communication. Its organization and composition are crucial for tissue integrity and function.
Look behind the glovebox.
Open the hood and look down the left side of the battery and you will see a black plastic box that will have the ECM inside of it.
Remove the glove box. Look under the dash. You should see the ECM inside a plastic enclosure, bolted to the firewall. Remove all bolts, unplug the ECM from the harness, and it will come right out. Install the new ECM in the reverse order to remove the old one.

Location of the ECM on 1995 crown vicTo answer your question the ECM is located under the drivers side dashboard. When you look under the dash, look about 5 inchs to your left, you should see a silver in color box. To remove the ECM youll need a 10mm socket. First disconnect your battery. Look under the hood of the car. Locate the brake booster. Look below the brake booster for a square with lots of wires coming out of it. In the center of the square there is a bolt, shouldbe a 10mm. You need to take this bolt out. Once you've done that go back inside the car under the drivers side dash. There should be a bracket that holds the ECM in place. Remove any clips or screws that might be holding it. Then presto you've located the ECM and removed it. To install just reverse these instructions. Good Luck
