The gas gauge light should be a part of the panel lights and It sounds like the bulb is burned out, that is of the rest of the panel lights are working, check owners manual to see if gas gauge light has a seperate fuse, but check the fuse according to owners manual. If you don't have the manual you can download one from Ford
1. check the fuse to make sure if ok then.
2. locate bulb on back of printed circuit panel
3. twist to left about 1/4 turn remove bulb with socket.
4. check bulb using jumper leads from 12.v batt touch leads on two contacts
5. if replacing bulb doesn't work check for power at socket plug in if no power the circuit panel may be bad and if so have a professional do the job it can get complicated
hope this helps.
