A floating object always displaces an amount of water of the same weight of the object. An object that sinks displaces the amount of fluid equal to the objects volume. Water levels rise. So to calculate either, you would need to know the weight or the volume. One other comment, the amounts are different between objects in fresh water and objects in salt water

What happens is that you can see that the density of a nail is more than the density of water and that the density of a cork is less than that of water.

A submarine sinks as it fills its' ballast tanks with water. Then it uses pressurized air to empty them and float again.
Isostatic equilibrium is the balance between Earth's crust and the layer of mantle it floats on. The denser the crust is, the more it sinks into the mantle. Equilibrium is achieved when the crust floats at a certain level in the mantle.
