repair timing chain on 2000 chevy tracker
It does not have a timing belt. It has a chain and gears. If timing chain goes out then the engine will not run.
Chain
It can, but odds are when this happens the engine will fail to run because the timing is off so bad.
The 1.6 liter four cylinder has a timing BELT and the 2.0 liter four cylinder has a timing CHAIN
Before we get into timing and whatnot, let me just ask what the actual observed know problem and/or symptoms are.
The 1.6 liter , 4 cylinder , has a timing BELT and the 2.0 liter , 4 cylinder has a timing CHAIN
1999 and newer Chevy trackers don't have a timing belt, they have a timing chain and i was told by my mechanic that it shouldn't need changed at any specific mileage interval.
don't replace it unless it breaks
There is no maintenance on the timing chain unless it breaks. No you don't change it.
As I understand it, a freewheeling engine, such as the 2.3 liter Ford is an overhead cam engine that will not crash the valves if the timing belt breaks. A 350 Chevy uses a timing chain since the cam is in the block. If the timing chain breaks on that, you're out of luck.
