It is the connection between the rack and pinion unit and the steering mechanism/column. It is routed through the firewall and has a rubber boot where it passes from the interior to exterior of the vehicle. There are two U-joints on the shaft (one inside and one outside).
There was a TSB or technical service bulletin advising to replace the bolt that attaches the shaft to the pinion system. Even though this has been recommended there are several (read a whole lot of) mechanics and parts folks who say it is better just to replace the entire lower/intermediate shaft.
To grease the intermediate steering shaft on a 2003 Saturn Vue, first, locate the shaft, which runs from the steering column to the steering rack. Remove any protective covers and use a grease gun to apply a suitable grease through the grease fitting, ensuring to fill it until you see old grease oozing out. Rotate the steering wheel back and forth to distribute the grease evenly, then wipe away any excess. Reassemble any removed components and check for smooth steering operation.
Check where steering column passes thru floorboard then lube the shaft where it passes thru the rubber boot.
steering wheel
the dealership told me that it is due to the steering column needing to be lubricated
There is no powersteering fluid. It is electronic.
Steering Wheel Air bag!
Your Vue has electric steering therefore there is no pump. If you have no power strg you have an electrical problem........with the power steering unit or wiring to it. Troubles codes can be read for the steering to help in diagnostics
The power steering is controlled by the body control module. There is no fluid.
If it is a whining noise, the vehicle is low on steering fluid or the power steering pump may be going bad. If it is a clicking noise, the CV joints may be going bad. NOPE a Saturn vue has electric power steering and no pawer steering pumpA Saturn vue has 4 stabilizer links and they are made of plastic Moog makes metal replacements for the front but the rear still come from the dealer and are plastic they wear out and make noise when you turn replace them and the noise should go away
The Vue doesn't use power steering fluid. The power steering system is entirely electric and requires no maintenance. If there is a problem with the power steering system, the Malfunction Indicator Light with the icon of a car and a wrench will light.
Saturn Vue was created in 2002.
Could be a worn belt, failing power steering pump or low power steering fluid.
