typically when you hear of a studded engine it what they are referring to is a high performance application where all or most of the bolts found in the engine such as for the mains, rods, heads, rockers etc are replaced by screwed in "studs", studs are preferred in high performance applications because they are both stronger and aid in quick assembly/ dis assembly which is much more important on the track when changes or repairs have to be performed in minniots between laps compared to hours in normal street situations
