I have a 97 suburban and the steering randomly slips causing the truck to jerk the direction it slips because the driver will over correct the movement. The steering will slip to the right majority of the time.

You could have ignition problems if it is the engine causing the jerk.
Most likely needs the front rotors turned or replaced.
4x4 will jerk when accel. especially while turning. It is alot of torque on all four wheels pulling at the same time. You should only accel slowly with 4x4 on, especially in 4x4 low.
