The Explorer 4.0 does not have a timing belt. Both the regular 4.0 or SOHC model have timing chains. The SOHC, I think has the timing chain at the back of the engine.
The Ford Explorer engines use a timing CHAIN
We just had an estimate done on our 2001 Ford Explorer and it was approximately $2500. We think that is extremely high so we are researching a second opinion.
The 2003 Ford Explorer 4.6 liter V8 engine has ( 2 ) timing CHAINS ( one timing chain to each cylinder head )
Your 4.0 L - OHV - V6 engine has a timing CHAIN
The 2011 Camry with the 4 cylinder or the V-6 doesn't use a timing belt. There is no replacement schedule.
On a 2002 Ford Explorer : The 4.6 liter V8 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing CHAINS )

The 1998 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder 2.4 engine has a timing chain as well as a tensioner assembly that over time will wear and need replacement!
The 4 cylinder has a timing chain that does not require replacement and is designed to last the life of the engine.
i believe the 2003 has a timing chain and so does not require a change or replacement even in the owners manual its not listed for the 4 cylinder model only if your water pump is leaking then you would require to change the water pump. but for the 6 cylinder you do need to do the timing belt replacement at certain intervals.
There is no scheduled replacement on timing chains (only on timing belts). Therefore, it only needs to be replaced if it breaks.
On a Ford Explorer : The 1996 to 2001 , 5.0 litre V8 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN ) The 2002 and newer , 4.6 litre V8 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing CHAINS )
