Just replaced mine. Cost 151.22 total. According to my invoice, labor was 70.00 some dollars, vss was 80.00 some, and then tax.
Do-It-YourselfManual trans vehicle speed sensor VSS: $20-25
Automatic trans VSS: $40-45
Fairly easy access, so it's very doable for us backyard mechanics
Turbine Speed Sensor
About $35 with 1 bolt on the very end of the trans - directly behind the driverside wheel.
On transmission by where one of the axles attaches to it. My Haines book says it's on top of the trans mission just under the mass air flow sensor. You have to remove the ducting & M.A.F.Sensor to get to the speed sensor but removing the speed sensor looks tricky.
Looking in from the drivers-side wheel well, you can see a sensor with a 2 wire connector on the very end of the trans - that one is the turbine speed sensor (TSS). On a related note, the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is over to the right, kinda facing the firewall.
speed sensor
It unscrews just like a spark plug.
IT should be in the air duct going to the throttle bore.
The speed sensor on a 1996 Honda Accord is found on top go the transmission. The sensor will have a two prong wire clipped into it.
It has a Speed sensor.
The 1996 Nissan 200 vehicle speed sensor can be found on the back of the transmission. The vehicle speed sensor will be in the upper left-hand corner of the transmission.
To check the speed sensor on a 1996 Mercedes C220, first locate the sensor, which is typically found on the transmission. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the sensor terminals; it should fall within the manufacturer's specified range. Additionally, you can check for voltage output while the vehicle is in motion. If the readings are out of spec or the sensor fails to produce a signal, it may need replacement.
The speed sensor for a 1996 Geo Tracker is located on the transmission housing. The speed sensor is important , it keeps track of the tires and delivers the figures to the main system

The speed sensor on a 1996 Pathfinder 3.3 automatic transmission is in the engine compartment. It is on the transfer case.
