Many factors effect gas mileage on the big vans including Weight, highway or town driving, engine temperature, stick or auto tranny, elevation, flat or hilly ground, A/C or no A/C, tire size, and how heavy your foot is. At 85000 miles my B-3500 with a 5.9Lengine will use a gallon every ten miles in town when the temperature and engine are cold (20-25 degrees) and the ECU is in open loop mode. In the summer with temperatures around ninety degrees on level or somewhat hilly ground with windows open and no A/C driving 55 to 60 mph under a light load on paved back roads it will run about eighteen mpg. At 65 mph. mileage drops to around 15 mpg. At 70 you are lucky to get 14 mpg. There is no way to make an accurate prediction because the driver controls the gas pedal. Most of my driving is cross country.
