This happened on my wife's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She took it in to Chrysler for diagnostics and they found the blower motor resistor was bad and replaced it. part no# 5143127-AA Resistor Blower - 803502 $11.12 Electrical System Tech labor $149.21 It worked.
To locate the blower control resistor, windshield wiper then plastic panels under windshield wiper must be removed. Then remove wiper motor and linkage assembly. In the center of the car under the wiper linkage the plastice heater motor cover must be removed. Remove heater motor. The resistor/controller mounts directly below the heater motor. Resistor unit and wire harness must be removed as an assembly. Install new resistor and work back through directions. Due to the amount of labor involved it is recommended to check the blower motor at the same time.
Total repair is @$380.00 1.8 hours for labor plus parts.
9 hours
The fan blower resistor is located behind the glove compartment, and down underneath the dash. It is most easilly accessed by both removing the glove compartment, and then by reaching up underneath the dash from below. It is NOT easy to access, and I took my Rubicon to the dealer to have them mess with the cheap, inaccessible wiring harnesses and connectors. Labor on the repair runs about 3/4 of an hour, and the part ran me about $30.
Just paid $606 total including parts & labor in Carolina Beach, NC. I'm told location has alot to do with the repair costs also.
