About 1500 lbs. Depending on the suspension package you have. I regularly haul one yard of bark because it is pretty light. With topsoil, I limit my load to .75 cubic yards.
One thing to remember is that the rougher the road, the less you should haul. Overloading while static will eventually cause damage. The up and down motion of a rough road will really stress the suspension.
Please do not use my wife's rule of thumb. She is convinced, and apparently no amount of logic or reasoning will change her mind, that if the box will contain the volume then the vehicle will haul the load. She once put 2000 lbs. in the back of a Ford station wagon. Why a person with a post high school GPA of 4.0 can't grasp the concept that weight and volume don't mean the same thing is beyond me.
