All you need is a socket that will fit inside of the freeze plug and a hammer to drive it back in the block. You don't need a special tool.
To replace a freeze plug on the front side of a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, first ensure the engine is cool and drain the coolant. Remove any components obstructing access to the freeze plug, such as the radiator or engine covers. Use a punch or a flat tool to carefully tap the old freeze plug out, and clean the area before installing the new plug. Finally, tap the new freeze plug into place and reassemble any removed components before refilling the coolant.
Freeze plugs are installed on the side of the engine block. You will have to remove anything that is in the way. Remove the old freeze plug. I have never replaced one this model but in order to change a freeze plug you really need to pull the entire engine out and usually many of the accessories on the engine in order to pull it out with a channel lock or similar tool. than simply tap a new freeze plug in.
Take a punch and drive one side of the plug inward. Then grab the other side of the plug with pliers and remove it.
First identify the freeze plug that needs to be changed, second find a way to get to the freeze plug some ,dis assembly may be required using a sharp ended punch make a hole in the freeze plug not in the center but near the side so you can use a prying tool of some sort to remove the freeze plug. be sure that you clean the mounting surface inside the engine very well I recomend MEK and sciotch brite to do this job. apply a igh temp silicone (black) to the outside surface of the new freeze plug and then tap it in carefully and evenly using a large socket or a bearing installer either or the important thing is that you make sure that you have a flush fit. ya
tap one side so that the plug turns on its center axis inside of hole then pull it out apply loctite to new plug then evenly put it in with proper size tool
the first thing you do is pull the engine out and then replace them Actually you don't need to pull the motor. Jack up the car and put it on stands and NOT cinder blocks. Locate the leaking freeze plug. Remove whatever is in the way of it such as the starter or engine mount. Remove the old plug and it will require a special tool to install the new one.
