I rebuilt my 231 (3800 series II, 3.8) chevy.
I checked the bearing clearances several times, and primed the engine before starting it the first time.
the current pressure I am seeing is about 70-80 cold and 45-60 at operating temperature.
if you are seeing anything lower than 30, it is likely time for a rebuild. the oil pumps on these engines are crank driven and there is no such thing (for these) as a high pressure pump.
The oil pressure switch on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe is located on the back of the engine. It is in the center-rear part of the engine.
The pressure will be high until the oil reaches full operating temperature.

The normal oil pressure for a 6.0L Chevy engine typically ranges from 30 to 60 psi when the engine is at operating temperature. At idle, it may be lower, around 10 to 20 psi, but should increase with RPMs. It's important to monitor the oil pressure, as significantly lower or higher readings can indicate potential engine issues. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for specific guidelines.

The oil pressure switch on a 1998 Chevy Blazer is on the side of the engine block. It is located above the oil filter.
The oil gets thinner. It is normal for the oil pressure to drop after the engine has reached full operating temperature. If you have from 30-40 psi pressure when the engine is hot then that is normal.

For a 1988 Chevy truck with a 454 engine, normal oil pressure typically ranges from 40 to 60 psi at operating temperature. At idle, you may see lower readings, often around 10 to 20 psi, but it should rise with increased engine RPMs. It's important to monitor oil pressure regularly, as low pressure can indicate potential engine issues. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for specific recommendations and specifications.
